According to legend, they are only allowed to meet once a year on this day.

July 15 (Lunar) | The Full Moon of the Seventh Lunar Month

The Full Moon of the Seventh Lunar Month is an important lunar festival in Buddhism that no devotee can ignore. On this day, two significant ceremonies are held: Vu Lan Festival and Ghost Festival.

Vu Lan Festival, also known as Vu Lan Filial Piety Festival, originates from the touching story of the Buddha’s disciple, Muc Kien Lien, rescuing his mother from hell. Additionally, July 15 is also the Ghost Festival, derived from the story of Ananda and the fire-mouth demon, a fire-mouthed ghost also known as the burning-face demon.
