What is VietGAP and The 5 representative criteria of VietGAP that KAMEREO has achieved

VietGAP is considered an assurance of product quality and can also be seen as a  solid guarantee for the reputation of the brand. That’s why passing the “rounds of tests” and evaluations from this certification can be quite challenging. Let’s follow Kamereo’s journey to achieve VietGAP certification and explore these criteria!

VietGAP is considered an assurance of product quality and can also be seen as a sharp weapon instead of the brand’s reputation. That is why passing the “rounds of tests” and evaluations from this certification can be challenging. Currently, there are 12 popular VietGAP standards that every unit wishing to obtain this certification must meet. Kamereo is also a candidate, and there are no exceptions.

Climatic and nutrient conditions have a relatively significant impact on agricultural products’ development and nutrient content. Therefore, geographical factors or production areas are standard evaluation criteria. Dalat is a famous land with favorable natural conditions for the intensive cultivation of many vegetables and fruits with an efficient production process. At Kamereo, up to 70% of the farms cooperating with Green Dragon Fruit Co., Ltd. are located in Dalat.

Clean food is always a top priority for health, and the “clean” factor here is the amount of chemicals used to cultivate agricultural products. Agricultural products with residual chemicals can cause significant adverse effects. Therefore, to obtain VietGAP certification, businesses must strictly comply with regulations on plant protection drugs (PPPs). Notable requirements include:

– Purchasing only PPPs in the list allowed for use in Vietnam issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

– Purchasing only types of pesticides used for fruit trees in the List of PPPs allowed for use on fruit trees in Vietnam.

– The pesticides must be stored in a warehouse for control after purchase.

– PPPs must comply with quality regulations.

– Information on the purchase, storage, and use of pesticides must be fully recorded in the logbook according to the prescribed form.

– Workers using PPPs must be trained in using PPPs and safety measures during use.

If controlling the use of chemicals before cultivation is essential, managing and treating waste afterwards is equally necessary. At VietGAP-standard farms of Kamereo, they must adhere to strict rules to ensure safety, such as:

– Hazardous waste (expired chemicals, pesticide packaging, etc.) must be collected centrally and sent for treatment by specialized agencies.

– The wastewater system and waste storage area must be built to ensure no pollution to the production and warehouse areas after harvesting.

– Organic waste must be processed (composted) as a source of organic fertilizer for the soil. The composting area must be isolated and ensure no pollution to the production area.

– Inorganic waste that is not or is difficult to decompose must be collected for recycling or coordinated with urban environmental companies for disposal.

Criterion 4 – Harvesting and post-harvest handling

The purpose is to establish appropriate management measures to comply with VietGAP requirements and minimize the risks of chemical, biological, and physical pollution to products during harvesting at the Company.

– Harvesting tools must be made of materials that do not contaminate the product.

– Products after harvesting must not come into direct contact with the soil.

– Products in baskets must not be pressed tightly or crushed.

– The containers holding the products must not be placed directly on the ground to avoid contamination risks.

– Transport vehicles must be cleaned before loading product packaging.

– Do not transport products together with goods that may contaminate the products.

– The storage warehouse and transport vehicles must be regularly disinfected.

This is an equally important criterion for controlling the origin of the product. Following this regulation, Kamereo is responsible and must self-check or hire internal inspectors to see if the production implementation, record-keeping, and storage meet the requirements.

– Records must be established in detail for each step in the VietGAP practice and stored at the production facility.

– Records must be kept for at least two years or longer when required by customers or management agencies.

– Products produced according to VietGAP must clearly state the location and batch number of the production batch. The location and batch number must be recorded and stored.

– Product packaging containers must have labels to facilitate source traceability.

These are some of the representative checklists that units must implement to receive VietGAP certification. Follow Kamereo for the latest articles!
